"Chasing South" is a documentary that follows trail runner Keisuke Minami's attempt to set the fastest time (FKT) for the Grand Randonnée 10 (GR10).
The 914km route across the Pyrenees Mountains in the south of France usually takes 45 to 60 days to complete, but Keisuke Minami aimed to complete it in just over nine days. The gruelling journey, with a cumulative elevation gain of 51,400m, meant he had to battle extreme fatigue, accumulating pain, unforgiving weather, and loneliness.
Why is he pushing himself so hard? Is he just chasing a record, or is he chasing something else?
Tenacity, perseverance, and conflict—what is the "liberation" that lies beyond running? This is a soulful documentary that delves into the innermost thoughts of athletes who challenge themselves to the limits.
